Bogove Waterfall

Bogove is a 20-metre waterfall dropping into a cold green pool, about 20 kilometres south of Corovode. It is the easiest worthwhile stop in the Skrapar region and the one most people pair with the canyon.
Where it is and how to reach it
The waterfall sits above the village of Bogove, off the road that continues south from Corovode. The drive from Berat is around two hours in total. The final approach is a rough track, and while a normal car can usually reach the village, the parking area above it wants some ground clearance.
There is no bus. Furgons run between Berat and Corovode, but they stop well short of the trailhead, so you need a car, a taxi from Corovode, or a guided day trip.
The walk to the falls
From the parking area it is a 15 to 20 minute walk on a marked path through Bogove Nature Park, descending gently the whole way. The path is stony and gets slick near the bottom where the spray reaches it. Trainers are enough in dry conditions, but the last stretch over wet rock is where people slip.
Swimming at the pool
The pool below the falls is deep enough to swim and holds its temperature somewhere around 10°C through the summer. Get in slowly. The cold is sharp enough to catch your breath, and there is nobody stationed there if it goes wrong.
Late July and August are the best swimming weeks, when the air is hot and the flow has eased. In April and May the falls are far more powerful and the pool is not really swimmable.
Combining Bogove with the Osumi Canyon
The two work well in one day, and this is how the combo tour is built. Bogove takes about 90 minutes including the walk, which leaves the rest of the day for the canyon rim viewpoints, the Bride's Hole, and the Abaz Aliu footprints.
If you are rafting instead, do the rafting in the morning and Bogove afterwards only if you still have daylight. The rafting run finishes with lunch and most people are done by then.
